Specially Painted Locomotive Honors New Jersey Veterans

No. 1823 on display in Roxbury Township, New Jersey

Roxbury Township, NJ - The Dover and Rockaway River Railroad Company (DRRV) unveiled its one-of-a-kind “Honoring New Jersey Veterans” locomotive this morning during a special ceremony in Roxbury Township, New Jersey. DRRV employees, active military representatives, civic leaders, and news media attended the event to commission the locomotive.

No. 1823 is a GP9 locomotive model that is assigned to DRRV in Morris County, New Jersey. The locomotive pays tribute to the 371,383 veterans currently living in New Jersey.

The idea for the special locomotive originated with the Military Transport Association, Inc. (MTA), who approached DRRV’s parent company, Chesapeake and Delaware, LLC (CAD) seeking a partner in the project. DRRV employees and MTA volunteers collaborated on the design and completion of the work.

“We were honored when the Military Transport Association approached us about this project, and we are very grateful for the service of all veterans,” said CAD President Kean Burenga. “The 1823 is a rolling reminder throughout our communities of the contributions and sacrifice veterans have made in the name of freedom.”

The Military Transport Association, Inc. (MTA) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit membership organization for people interested in collecting, restoring, and operating historic military vehicles. The MTA holds monthly meetings throughout the year and hosts an annual military vehicle show and swap meet in April, which is one of the largest military shows on the east coast.
